A HISTORIC FILM ART COLLECTION
THE TOP TEN REASONS FOR BUYING THE JOHN ALVIN ART ESTATE
- 1. The John Alvin Art Estate is an important and essential part of film history, capturing the process of creating movie posters for films from the 70s, 80s, 90s, and early 2000s. The collection includes 1010 originals and 40 posters from the original release dates from John Alvin’s personal collection. The art is being sold by the Alvin family. Buying this collection is buying a piece of film history. Collectors buy posters, which were made and printed in the thousands, now you can collect the ORIGINAL art used in the MAKING of the posters you know and love.
- 2. This is the only collection of its kind available for purchase, and movie posters are no longer made using traditional illustration techniques. There are no other collections that show that process from concept to completion in the form of original art created for the original film’s release.
- 3. The art is from movies that are now considered classics, like Star Wars, E.T. The Extraterrestrial, Willow, Batman, Cocoon, The Lost Boys, Legend, and dozens of others. These films, and the art representing them, will continue to be more popular as those that saw them as kids grow older and build their personal net worth.
- 4. Original art by illustrators from earlier generations have gone from financially attainable to selling for millions of dollars in only a few years. This is also true of original props or memorabilia from films. The ruby slippers from The Wizard of Oz recently went for $32 million dollars. A number of films represented in this collection will be considered classics on that level in the future, especially as fans age, making the art increasingly valuable.
- 5. John is the only artist who was hired on film campaigns for a “total buy”, where he did all the images promoting the films, including international releases. These are posters shown around the world, in every theater, and are recognized by people everywhere. That is only true for John Alvin. His work was in households, seen every day, around the world, and his images are the ultimate in pop culture nostalgia.
- 6. There have been reboots of a number of films represented in the collection, and there are already re-releases or reboots in the works for a number of other properties. A number of those projects have posters that reflect John Alvin’s original imagery.

- 7. This collection captures movies beloved around the world and make a great display, whether most of the collection is on view, or specific films are highlighted showing the art process. These images are perfect for media rooms, corporate settings celebrating pop culture, children’s spaces, and game rooms, or, as some collectors prefer, anywhere and everywhere there’s a wall.
- 8. The collection as a whole is also worthy of museum showings, and could be lent to museums to further enhance both the value of the art itself and awareness around the artist who created so many recognizable images. It includes a number of films that are very popular with all age groups, so a museum show with this art would pull in movie fans and art lovers of all ages.

- 9. Many of the films represented in the collection have little to no available original art or even prop collectibles available for purchase. Pokemon and Batman are two examples, but that’s also true of the Disney films from the New Golden Age of Disney, like Beauty and the Beast, Aladdin, and The Lion King, none of which have original cels. The estate is perfect for Disney fans looking for original art key to the release of newer films, or collectors of particular movies with limited or no art available.

- 10. The films John Alvin worked on represent classics from every genre. The collection spans a wide swath of film history, and tells a 20th and 21st century story of every major Hollywood studio, including Disney, Warner Brothers, Paramount, and Universal.
